Nicke Nocke – Part 2

nicke

From an initial sketch design on paper , very rough idea of composition, flow of lines and the beginnings of the title – Nicke Nocke. The sweeping lines were inspired by the paths skimming the edge of the mountain pass whilst the horizontal forms were representing the sawn trees lying on the path and the urn like shape in the top left corner was an old tree stump covered in moss.

It took a little refining before it was ready to trace onto the block of lino and begin carving.

Leaving the block in the sun by the window warmed it up nicely for carving.

The desing developed thgourh the process of cutting, refining, drawing and cuttnig again.

Here it is nearly completed.

Several hours and many cups of tea later. Whilst simultaneously facilitating the  rest of the group, none of whom were printmakers!

The box contained 50 prints, and a printed cover to the box. Ready to exchange with the other students and tutors.
